Premier League stays on Play Sports
Friday, December 11, 2015 — Telenet has extended its contract with the Barclays Premier League from England by three years. Telenet has held the exclusive rights to the Premier League for many years and, thanks to this new agreement, you will be able to follow the best football competition in the world on Play Sports for the next three seasons as well.
Belgian connection
There can be no doubt that the Premier League has a high symbolic value in the world of football. The English top flight is the football competition that appends most to the imagination worldwide and still attracts the crème de la crème of world football. Moreover, the Belgian connection has become considerably stronger in recent years. Just about all the Red Devils play in the English league. Vincent Kompany is the captain of a top club, but also Hazard, Courtois, De Bruyne, Fellaini, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Chadli, Lukaku, and Benteke earn the plaudits of football fans in England and in the rest of the world. And so, the Premier League simply has to be part of the Play Sports package, which regularly follows the very best Belgians both at home and abroad.
Extended coverage
On average, Play Sports broadcasts five live matches each weekend, plus extended highlights of all other matches. Football fans can follow all those matches on the Play Sports app, with extra statistics. Viewers can watch all the highlights again during the match and look up all the statistics of the teams playing.
Best range in Flanders
‘Interest in English football is growing strongly each year. Our clients tell us that they really enjoy the Premier League. Particularly because in this way, they can follow our top Belgian players closely. This is one of the reasons why Telenet has made a major effort to retain the rights to the Premier League. By guaranteeing the rights to the Premier League, Play Sports retains the best range of sports in Flanders,’ says Sr VP of Residential Marketing, Jeroen Bronselaer.
“There is significant interest in the Premier League in Belgium and Telenet currently does an excellent job making the competition available to fans across the country.” adds Premier League Executive Chairman, Richard Scudamore."We are very pleased they have again chosen to invest in our broadcasting rights and look forward to working with them in the coming seasons."
And the other football competitions?
Telenet wants to continue to give its clients the very best sports offer. The extension to the Premier League contract fits in with that perspective. Apart from football from England, you will also be able to watch all Belgian matches live next season on the Play Sports channels. Furthermore, the Play Sports package also includes the German Bundesliga, the Dutch Eredivisie, and the Europa League. The agreement with Eleven Sports Network also adds a whole series of foreign football matches: the Spanish Liga BBVA, the French Ligue 1, the Italian Serie A, and the FA Cup.
