Educational guidance with the ChatLicense app
Customers who subscribe to a Telenet Mobile Junior plan get a voucher to use the ChatLicense app for free for one full year. With ChatLicense, you get an app for the young person’s smartphone and a companion app for parents. Young people embark on a digital journey through a fictional city, learning the right digital skills as they go. At the end of their journey, they receive a digital "driver's license". Parents can track that journey and have access to a continually updated information platform where they get an insight into their children's online world.
Dieter Nieuwdorp, Chief Commercial Officer at Telenet group:
The digital education of our children is a challenge. Parents want to give their kids enough autonomy – including in the digital world – but at the same time protect them from the risks that come with it. With Telenet Mobile Junior we combine an affordable mobile plan with useful extras such as educational tools and science-backed information, so parents can guide their children as they take their first steps in the digital world. With this unique product, we hope to make a meaningful contribution to the very current debate about the digital education of our youth.
A step forward, Mediawijs agrees
Mediawijs, the Flemish knowledge center for digital and media literacy of the Flemish government, and imec vzw also think this is a step in the right direction. Mediawijs helps parents and youngsters navigate the digital world, a.o. by offering information, tips and answers about parenting in a digital environment on Medianest.be.
Karen Linten, media education expert at Mediawijs:
Many parents are concerned: can their children rack up extra charges online? This Telenet subscription helps to address this concern. The ChatLicense app can also help parents teach their kids new skills and determine when their child is ready to explore new apps. It enables them to make clear agreements and to continue discussing the opportunities and risks of the digital world. That's important, because parents play a crucial role in their child's upbringing, including in the digital world.
