European Commission has serious concerns about proposed cable regulation
Today, the European Commission issued a press release stating that it has expressed a number of concerns on the proposal by the Belgian and regional regulators to regulate broadcasting services. The Commission criticises the regulators' analysis of the broadcasting markets and the disproportionate remedies. It also raised questions on the proposal to regulate broadband cable internet access. The Commission asked the regulators to carefully examine the competitive conditions in the markets concerned and provide further evidence for their proposed measures.
Telenet is encouraged by the European Commission's statement today, which disagrees with the methodologies and remedies put forward by the regulators. The Commission believes that the broadcast market in Belgium has already a satisfactory level of competition as demonstrated by the remarkable level of platform competition.
