The Bundesliga returns exclusively to Play Sports
Mechelen, 22 May 2025. Wir haben es geschafft! Telenet has secured the broadcasting rights for the German Bundesliga through 2029. After seven years, top-tier German football—with all its stars and many Belgians—returns home to Play Sports!
Great news for football fans: the Bundesliga will be shown exclusively on Play Sports! Starting next season, German football of the highest level will once again be available on the Play Sports channels and app, through the 2028–2029 season. Certain select matches from Bundesliga 2 will also be featured.
Even more top matches…
The Bundesliga adds even more fire and passion to the Play Sports lineup, with thrilling title and relegation battles, including “Der Klassiker” between FC Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund, and the “Borussen derby” between Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach. With Hamburger SV’s promotion, the “Nordderby” against Werder Bremen and the Hamburg derby against FC St. Pauli are also back on the schedule.
…and lots of Belgians
The Bundesliga features the highest number of Belgians in a European top league, now on Play Sports. Will coach Vincent Kompany confirm his success after leading Bayern to the German championship this season? Can Loïs Openda, Arthur Vermeeren, and Maarten Vandevoordt push RB Leipzig toward Champions League qualification again? Will Julien Duranville finally break through at Borussia Dortmund? Will Michy Batshuayi make his mark at Eintracht Frankfurt? And can Sebastiaan Bornauw (VfL Wolfsburg) avoid a relegation battle?
Starting August 22, Play Sports will cover Bundesliga matches every weekend, regularly complemented by studio coverage and expert analysis from Dennis Xhaët, Bart Raes, Filip Joos, Hein Vanhaezebrouck, Bob Peeters, Frank Boeckx, and others.
Peer Naubert, Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer of Bundesliga International, said: “The demand for the Bundesliga goes beyond traditional TV viewers. Fans want to watch on the go—how and when they want. That’s why Telenet, one of Belgium’s largest telecom operators, is the perfect partner. With our mix of Belgian top players and coach Vincent Kompany recently leading Bayern Munich to the title, we’re excited to leverage Telenet’s innovative approach to reach fans across Belgium. Telenet impressed us with the quality of their production and studio coverage, as well as their premium rights portfolio.”
Dieter Nieuwdorp, Chief Commercial Officer Residential & SOHO at Telenet, added: “Telenet (Play Sports) looks forward to joining forces with the Bundesliga to expand its reach and popularity in Belgium. With talents like Loïs Openda and Arthur Vermeeren (RB Leipzig), Arthur Theate (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Vincent Kompany as head coach of newly crowned champions Bayern Munich, the foundation is already set on the field for an exciting partnership off it.”
